Solid Silver Baby Mug

Twenty five years is really something to celebrate. We are very proud of the fact that we’ve been producing some of the nicest things in your kitchen for the past two and a half decades. That’s a quarter of a century, which means that 2010 at Bridgewater is the year we’re celebrating our dazzling silver anniversary. To celebrate this special time for us, we’re producing a completely unique and really special solid silver Baby Mug.

Since Emma first dreamed up the idea of producing hand-made pottery in a factory in Stoke on Trent, she has remained deeply committed to manufacturing within Britain. Our factory in Stoke on Trent is a testament to this commitment. And as our twenty-fifth birthday emerged onto the horizon, she was adamant that she wanted to celebrate this very special birthday with a completely unique mug that would embody everything that Bridgewater stands for, and central to this was the idea that it should be something hand- made, by master craftsmen, in England.

With this in mind, Emma came up with the idea of celebrating Bridgewater’s birthday with a solid silver Baby Mug, a classic Bridgewater shape that’s seen us through the decades. Emma was drawn to the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham as an area woven through with Britain’s proud manufacturing history, rather like Stoke on Trent. Some of the most dazzling silver, gold and jewellery has been manufactured in this quarter for over three hundred years. Emma did her research thoroughly in this historical district of Birmingham, which has more than a feeling of a Dickensian novel about it. Crescent Silver, run by Neil Grant, a second generation silversmith, is one of the last few remaining silver smiths in the country, and produces stunning silver artefacts from a building in the jewellery quarter which has been in use as a silversmith for over one hundred years . Celebrated for the quality of their work, they’ve produced the Queen’s medal for music, solid silver candle sticks for Elton John’s wedding and Christmas presents for the Prince of Wales.

We’ve very excited about the results of this collaboration between Bridgewater and Crescent Silver. Our solid silver Baby Mug is hallmarked with Emma Bridgewater and dazzling a base stamp. Heavy and glittering, it’s a fitting testament to the passion, hard work and essential creativity which has run through Bridgewater for the past twenty five years. It’s designed to complement our other anniversary pieces. These include our glorious Union Jack Half Pint Mug, with silver colourings, and our extra special Silver Toast Half Pint mug. If you’re a member of our Collector’s Club, you can also help us celebrate our birthday with a 2010 Year Jug in Silver Union Jack. The year jug is now in its 11th year, and the jugs are becoming increasingly collectible. A 2006 Owl jug recently fetched over £500 on eBay!
