Staffordshire Oatcakes can be enjoyed as they are, or with just a little butter….But by far the most popular fillings for Staffordshire Oatcakes are breakfast favourites such as bacon, sausage, mushrooms, eggs, beans, tomatoes and cheese….always cheese (usually Cheshire or Cheddar).
After making your Staffordshire Oatcakes, place under a grill for about a minute. Then turn it over and add the cheese, or cheeses, of your choice. When the cheese is bubbling, remove from the grill and then add your favourite fillings. Your oatcake can be left open, folded in half or rolled up like a cigar. Brown sauce or tomato ketchup is a must. Unless, like the wife, you prefer a splash of Worcestershire sauce.
