Happy Pancake Day!

Flip Flip Horray! Emma shares a message below about Shrove Tuesday and, of course, pancakes.
P.s. why not add some extra zest to your pancakes with our bright Lemons pieces (and other fruits) online here.

 ---

In other years, I was always aware of Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent as a thoughtful time.

This year too, it has loomed significantly for me, but in a different way.

This year, more than ever, I find that I'm not much taken with the idea of giving something up for Lent. Now don't get me wrong, I find impulse control in our marketing-savvy world just as hard as the next person, and we do all need to practice reigning in our natural feelings of greed; but these days I'm more interested in using this thoughtful time to focus on a little more stillness.

I'm more interested now in the ideas contained in the story of Lent as a 40 day withdrawal from the world. This may seem perverse as we are all chafing under Covid restrictions - and, Oh!- how I long for the busy world.  But in recent years I have glimpsed the possibility of the stillness of retreat, and now I love the simplicity of this idea more than ever.

So as well as pancakes- yes, yes, there will be pancakes, with vanilla sugar and lemon juice please!- I will be committed to a short daily period of meditation.

If you don't already do this, I highly recommend the calming and focussing effects of mediating for a few minutes every morning.
