Decorating Studio

Come and decorate a really special present for a best friend or hold a party at our bright and inspiring Decorating Studio attached to the main factory. Perfect for birthdays and school groups and not only for children – we recently hosted the WI who had a great time!

We stock a wide range of plain Emma Bridgewater pieces for you to decorate with your own designs. We even have several discontinued lines and old favourites that you might not have seen for a bit. There’s a great selection of hand-cut sponges and colours and if you need a bit of help then one of our lovely assistants is always on hand, for example they can sketch out a name if your brush work is a bit wobbly. There are always lots of seasonal sponges for you to use so if you visit us in early February, for example, you will find our Decorating Studio full of enough hearts and love to produce a suitably amorous piece of pottery for someone special.

Plates and mugs decorated by children make sweet presents for grandparents and if you are bringing your baby with you, it’s the perfect moment to decorate a plate with an imprint of tiny feet or hands.

We have recently redesigned our cafe and decorating studio, and we’re very proud of the results. Big windows look out onto the factory courtyard, with a high beamed ceiling, a smart chrome-topped counter and big lamps, giving a modern, airy feeling to an original industrial space.

You can book the Decorating Studio for individuals or groups and we can organise a lovely tea for you as well.

The cost is a studio fee of £2.95 per person decorating plus individually priced pottery items from the Emma Bridgewater collection. This includes instruction, use of paints, sponges and brushes and having your item fired and glazed. Items will be ready for collection 5 days after your visit.
