Head of Human Resources


The role of Head of HR at Emma Bridgewater is accountable for developing and leading the people strategy and plan within the business. This includes reviewing and managing our overall HR policies and practices, our recruitment, retention and remuneration plan, performance monitoring and employee relations and engagement.

The Head of HR will be based in our Stoke office, with regular travel to our London office and to shop locations from time to time.

Key areas of accountability
•Recruitment and retention – set the direction and agree policies and procedures for managing positive and successful recruitment, induction and retention across the business
•Remuneration and employee benefits – inform the Executive team on payment and benefit trends and practices within the industry, alongside changes in national living/minimum wages. Help develop and deliver the longer-term remuneration and employee benefits strategy
•Performance Management; support the management team in;
•Recognising and rewarding strong performance
•Dealing with underperformance across the business
•Dealing with day-to-day and ongoing employee relations issues
•Monitoring and managing absence
•Internal Communications – work with the senior Managers, the Marketing team and other teams across the business to make sure employees are well informed and up-to-date with all information they need to do their jobs efficiently and effectively.
•HR policies, procedures and working practices – keep the employee handbook up-to-date and relevant. Support the senior managers in continuing to develop a positive working environment in all teams across the business. Set and communicate annual business holiday dates (e.g. factory shut-down).
•Be aware of any changes in HR legislation and make sure the Executive team and senior managers know of any relevant updates or developments
•Training and development – oversee training and development at all levels within the business, from the senior management team to apprentices and new staff at all levels
•Gender Pay Gap reporting – manage our Gender Pay Gap reporting. Develop and deliver the 3 year plan to close the gap
•Community engagement strategy; support the management team in building strong relationships within the local community in our working locations (Stoke-on-Trent in particular). Develop and deliver our local partnerships strategy, including working with local schools and colleges, charities and industry bodies (on HR matters).

Key interfaces
•This role reports into the Operations Director, who is responsible for Factory Production, the Distribution Centre and Customer Services
•You will have a close working relationship with the Managing Director and the rest of the Executive team
•You will also work from time to time with the business owners/founders – Emma Bridgewater and Matthew Rice
•Regular work with the senior managers, particularly the Factory and DC Managers

Personal profile, skills and experience
•Substantial HR Management and leadership experience in a retail or manufacturing environment (or similar)
•Excellent influencing and communication skills and confidence in building relationships across the business
•Experience of working as member of senior management team
•Experienced in coaching managers through dealing with people issues and structural change, and leading where necessary
•Able to problem solve and demonstrate operational and strategic skills
•Understanding of employment law and experience of applying updated legislation to a variety of HR situations
•Excellent organisation and time management skills
•Confident and calm under pressure
•Happy to seek external or internal advice when needed
•Commercial and strategic, but also able to be practical and pragmatic when required

We’re looking for a part-time Shop Associate to join the team in our Emma Bridgewater shop on the Marylebone High Street.

Customer Service Assistant

Distribution Centre, Stoke On Trent

We are looking to recruit a Customer Services Assistant to work in our Stoke On Trent Distribution Centre office.

You will form a key part of our Customer Services team, delivering effective and efficient customer relationships. You will be required to answer phone calls, respond to emails and process orders, in a timely manner, often under pressure of time and work targets.

You must be polite and professional, and be able to deal calmly with customer enquiries and complaints. You will need to be computer literate and familiar with Excel.

The hours of work will be 39 hours over 6 days [between 08.00-20.00] with occasional requirement to work additional hours during our busy periods.

As part of our commitment to retaining skills and developing careers in the Ceramics Industry, we are happy to consider applications for Apprenticeships. These could be for roles in our Office, Shops, Design Studios, Warehouse or in Ceramics Manufacture. As well as receiving on the job training working closely with an experienced Mentor, we would support the achievement of a relevant and recognised qualification.

Work Experience

We are committed to developing links with schools, colleges and universities, and we are happy to accept invitations from students looking to undertake unpaid work experience placements. These placements may involve time spent in our Offices, Shops, Warehouse or Factory, normally over a 3 day period.

Retail Decorating Studio Assistant


We are looking to recruit a Retail Decorating Studio Assistant for our Victorian Factory Shop Café and Decorating Studio.

The ideal candidate will ideally have previous experience of working in a retail/café environment and knowledge of the Emma Bridgewater Ltd brand and product.

Strong customer service and sales skills are desirable for this role. An interest in Art and Design would also be an advantage.

You must be a team player, be prepared to use your own initiative and be flexible.

All roles will be rota’d over 7 days
