Design Notes: Poppies & Pinks

The tumble of an English garden.

"When I began designing this spongeware collection, I kept returning to the joyful tumble of an English cottage garden -  poppies, cornflowers, calendula and dog roses growing alongside one another.

Each flower started life as a simple line drawing in my sketchbook, and from there we built up layers of hand-sponged colour to give that perfectly imperfect finish."

The Colour Palette

"The colour palette was chosen to feel bright but comforting, like a garden in full bloom. It’s a celebration of colour, craft and the beauty of flowers in their own natural rhythm."

The Accidental Florist

Look out some unlikely vessels to use as vases- collect all sorts of bottles and jars, for bunches generous or simple...

“I have shelves and shelves of favourite containers- bottles, jars, jugs, tins - anything pleasing: from small discreet medicine bottles to big fat cider flagons, and I like to keep the odd wine bottle from an especially memorable dinner, a beer bottle with a striking label, or notable shapes including the containers of spreads, fizzy drinks and chilli sauces.”
