The Studio Series

At Emma Bridgewater, we’ve always believed that everyday pottery can tell a story, and The Studio Series is where new stories begin. Here, we invite artists we admire (some just starting out, others with well-worn brushes) to play on our favourite pieces.

We're delighted to be working with Jenny Bloomfield for our inaugural series.Jenny has an incredible talent for bringing to life dog sketches and we're SO happy to feature them on our hand-crafted mugs (we think these are set to get tails wagging).

We spoke to Jenny about lively dogs, tools of her trade and visiting our factory.

You’re the first in our Studio Series. What does it mean to have your artwork on an EB mug?

I'm thrilled. Emma Bridgewater mugs have been a staple of gift and homeware shops my entire adult life so I was so excited to be asked. The fact the mugs are made in the UK is really important - being able to visit thefactoryand see how the mugs are made, and speak to the skilled people who will actually make them was fascinating and made it feel like we were all part of the same creative process. It makes me sad that this is now such a rarity when it comes to creating merchandise.

Your drawings are so full of character. What about dogs inspires you?

Dogs are full of energy, which mirrors how I draw (fast and a bit messy). It's the way they interact together - pack animals but with individual personalities - that makes me keep coming back and drawing them again and again.

What materials do you use for your drawings

I use all sorts of media, both traditional and digital, and generally use a mix of different mediums in every piece I make.
